About SoCal Derby

Who are we?

We are a group of diverse skaters and volunteers from all over Southern California, proud to play competitive WFTDA roller derby. Our participants come from all walks of life and we are always welcoming new members. We are proud members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

A photo in which a black skater in a blue tank top and black N95 mask is approaching from the left while a skater in a white uniform wearing the jammer star helmet cover is athletically running on her skates to pass the blocker in the blue top. A referee is out of focus in the background, and the image was taken outdoors at a rink with a concrete floor.

Our History
SoCal Derby formed in 2011 by a group of experienced skaters from around the San Diego area who were inspired to join WFTDA.  We are a skater-operated, committee-driven organization dedicated to the sport of roller derby. We provide Southern California with an alternative source of sports entertainment and support our local community with volunteer efforts that benefit people all over the region. In 2023, we achieved a long-time league goal: we are a now registered Nonprofit Corporation!

It’s All Real!
Roller derby is a real sport, with real contact. All of our skaters train hard and play hard, following rules set forth by WFTDA. Our bouts (games) have no predetermined outcome, and there are no staged antics or fake hits. Don’t worry, despite the lack of acting, the entertainment value is very high.

Count Me In!
We’re looking for fans, skaters, officials and volunteers of all skills and derby experience levels who share our dedication to healthy, competitive roller skating and our community. If you’re interested in becoming part of our league, please reach out via the Contact page and/or check out all of the information on the Join page.
